Lab is. seeking a dedicated and passionate Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our vibrant charter school community! In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by empowering middle and high school scholars to overcome challenges and unlock their full potential-academically, socially, and personally.
As part of our collaborative and innovative team, you'll work closely with educators, families, and staff to ensure our scholars have the tools and support they need to thrive in school and beyond.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assessment and Evaluation
- Conduct comprehensive assessments for referred students to evaluate their motor, sensory, and cognitive skills in relation to school activities.
- Identify barriers to accessing the curriculum or participating in school-related activities.
- Collaborate with educators and families to determine eligibility for occupational therapy services under IEPs or Section 504 Plans.
Direct and Indirect Intervention - Provide therapy for:
- Fine motor skills (e.g., typing, writing, and using tools like calculators).
- Organization and executive functioning (e.g., managing assignments, meeting deadlines).
- Life skills training (e.g., dressing for physical education, meal preparation, and personal hygiene).
- Implement sensory integration strategies to help students self-regulate and remain focused in class.
- Teach scholars coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, or behavioral challenges.
Transitional and Life Skills Support - Prepare scholars for post-secondary environments by teaching workplace and community-related functional skills.
- Support development of independence, including skills like budgeting, navigating public transportation, and using assistive technologies.
- Help scholars develop social and communication skills needed for future educational or vocational settings.
Collaboration and Training - Work with teachers to adapt classroom materials and instructional methods for scholars with disabilities.
- Train school staff on strategies to support scholars with sensory needs or physical challenges in middle and high school settings.
- Partner with guidance counselors and transition coordinators to align therapy goals with students' Individual Transition Plans (ITPs).
Documentation and Compliance - Maintain thorough records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress toward IEP goals.
- Participate in IEP and Section 504 meetings to contribute expertise on necessary accommodations and modifications.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA and state charter school policies.
Family and Community Engagement - Educate families about therapy strategies that can be reinforced at home.
- Connect families with community resources for vocational training, assistive technology, or further therapy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Preferred: Experience working with adolescents in educational or clinical settings.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, including sensory, motor, and social-emotional skills.
- Expertise in teaching executive functioning, self-regulation, and independent living skills.
- Ability to adapt to the innovative and personalized environment of a charter school.
- Flexibility to work with diverse student populations, often in smaller, close-knit teams.
- Commitment to LAB's mission and academic objectives - a demonstrated belief that all students, regardless of background and incoming ability, can achieve at high levels;
- Record of using data in the classroom and driving student outcomes with students of similar populations;
- Commitment to education standards, frequent formative assessment, and accountability;
- Willingness to build relationships with scholars and families;
- A "can do" attitude and the ability to work as part of a team;
- Comfort with accountability and ability to absorb feedback and engage in self-improvement
- A desire to make others successful;
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and optimism;
- Ability to reflect and adjust to a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
COMPENSATION
Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience and education.
