The University of Washington has an outstanding opportunity for two Confidential Advocates to work in LiveWell Center for Advocacy and Health Promotion with students, faculty, and staff of gender-based violence. LiveWell Confidential Advocates work closely with various campus programs and services including but not limited to: Title IX Office, University of Washington Police Department, Human Resources, Student Life, SafeCampus and other university departments, including UW’s hospitals. The Confidential Advocates support campus community members who have concerns about relationship violence, sexual assault, stalking, harassment, or other related behaviors of concern on campus as well as UW-affiliated medical centers. LiveWell Confidential Advocates are expected to evaluate and respond to the individual needs of survivors within complex systems on campus and in the community. LiveWell Confidential Advocates support survivors throughout various systems including but not limited to: court hearings, Title IX hearings, medical consultations, academic needs, and safety planning. Competitive candidates will possess sound independent judgment while working with a wide variety of complex issues and individual needs. They will demonstrate cultural humility when working with diverse populations and strong critical thinking skills that allow them to tailor their work to the specific individual and context without assumptions. Inherent to success in this position is excellent organizational and time management skills. LiveWell confidential Advocates work with other LiveWell staff to offer comprehensive services and support. Our team works collaboratively to deliver effective educational programming and intervention services to students at the University of Washington. Our goal is to foster a community where individual agency is powered to positively impact health and well-being in our communities and in our own lives. LiveWell is committed to raising awareness, promoting community and accountability, and teaching life-long practices for health and well-being. This survivor advocate serves as a critical confidential resource on behalf of the University of Washington. Per RCW 28B.112.030 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Support to Survivor • Review resources and reporting options for survivors; safety plans; accompaniments to court and medical appointments; Assisting survivors in accessing emergency medical care such as sexual assault forensic exams. Connect requests for service with the correct resources and facilitate referrals, including to community-based organizations and resources. • Explain reporting options and rights information to survivors, such as their right to file a complaint to the University, make a police report, seek protection orders/university no contact directives, and request supportive measures. • Keep survivors apprised of the status and disposition of cases; monitor cases and provide follow-up assistance as necessary; refer individuals to other criminal justice agencies and/or community-based agencies to receive supportive services; assist with connection to crime victim programs. • Accompany survivors to investigative meetings related to the Title IX process and other university complaint processes. Accompany survivors to court appearances and meetings with police officers, detectives, prosecutors, and other persons in the criminal justice system as needed. • Serve as liaison between the survivor, law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, and organizations providing emergency housing, counseling, and crime victim's compensation. • Coordinate with other advocate services, particularly with LiveWell advocate, to coordinate care, receive and provide case consultation, and ensure process fidelity. Contribution to the University of Washington • Prepare written correspondence and reports as needed; contribute campus reports such as the Clery Report and Title IX Annual Report. • Serve on University committees and work groups to advance services, policies, and procedures pertaining to Title IX, safety and care, and resolution for survivors. Education/Liaison/Coordination • Provide information to the University and surrounding community regarding the survivor advocacy program. • Stay abreast of laws and issues affecting crime victims and disseminate information as appropriate. • Develop relationships with key personnel on each of the three campuses, cultivate knowledge of the unique features, resources, and processes available on each campus. • Maintain communication and interaction with University community and general public; partners in the criminal justice system, and partners in victim services throughout the city, county, state and country, for the purpose of information sharing and victim referral. • Facilitate educational training on Confidential Advocacy services to students and staff as requested and directed by supervisor. Documentation and Evaluation • Document case activity such as information and referrals provided, case history information received, court dates and dispositions. • Maintain records of contacts to produce monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. • Maintain required confidentiality of case information and records. • Conduct on-going review of services relative to trends and best practices in violence prevention and intervention. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent. • Two years’ experience working with survivors of gender-based violence required. Preferred experience working in advocacy and/or legal settings. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of violence prevention and intervention, including sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking issues, and strong theoretical and practical understanding of interpersonal violence. • Knowledge of Title IX laws and regulations. • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications, including public speaking. • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. • Ability to work independently as well as contributing in a collaborative manner to the overall mission of LiveWell.
